Blue Mitchell started his professional career playing the trumpet in a number of R & B bands, including Earl Bostic. By the late 1950's he worked briefly with Cannonball Adderley in New York, then joined the {Horace Silver] band which resulted in his reputation being established. In 1963 when Silver disbanded his group, Blue Mitchell set up his own band employing the musicians from Silver's band. Chick Corea took Silver's place and the band continued until the end of the decade when Blue Mitchell joined the backing band of Ray Charles.
