Gary Peacock played the piano in a US Army band and travelled to Germany in the late 1950's. During this time he took up the bass and after leaving the army decided to stay in Germany. He played with local musicians including Albert Mangelsdorff and Attila Zoller and visiting Americans such as saxophonists Bud Shank and Bob Cooper. Moving to California in 1958 he played with several musicians including Shorty Rogers, Paul Horn and Paul Bley. When he moved to New York in 1962 he continued to play with Bley and became involved in the avant garde scene. Here is also played with Bill Evans, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, George Russell, Roswell Rudd, Steve Lacy and Albert Ayler.
