| Tony Scott started playing the clarinet as a child but later studied formally at the Julliard School of Music. During the 1940's and beyond, Tony Scott made his living playing as a sideman in big bands. He was fascinated by the new jazz sounds that were emerging at that time and became a committed bop musician. The clarinet, unfortunately was not one of the instrument easily associated with this new genre although, Tony Scott was one of a few to receive recognition for his playing and built a reputation through the 1950's. He was also an arranger and musical director for several singers including Harry Belafonte, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan. |
