What does a fungus infection under house in crawlspace mean?
During our annual termite house inspection by a nationwide company, we were told we had the fungus with recommended borax treatment for $500. What does this mean and is it serious enough to treat or is this hype about nothing. Plastic sheets cover the dirt floor for moisture protection and house vents are open. NO termites but fungus?
You will only have fugal problems if you really do have water problems as the fungi need the wood to be quite wet before their spores can germinate. So the presence of fungus is a consequence of a problem and not the problem itself. It may be that improving the vents and airflow is all you need to do. It may also be that a similar control result could be achieved by hand-spraying a simple anti-fungal mix.
You need much more detail on the location, extent, identification and cause of the fungus problem before acting. The pest inspector is in a position to explain this verbally. If you can’t get a proper explanation, be suspicious and get another inspection done by an unrelated company.
