TOO HOT FOR WORDS |
Rating: 5.0 |
Don't let the bargain price fool you: this is an excellent sample of one of Billie's best phases, and the small groups that accompany her, assembled by Teddy Wilson, read like a roll call of the great players of the Swing Era. There are superb solos and accompaniments by the likes of Lester Young, Johnny Hodges, Benny Goodman, Roy Eldridge, and of course the wonderful, urbane pianism of Wilson himself. Matchless interpretations of great and not-so-great popular songs make for an unbeatable bargain and a brilliant introduction to the greatest of all jazz singers. |
