3CD boxset reaffirms Doris's legacy of song... |
Rating: 5.0 |
This CD set was released as a fitting tribute to Doris who celebrated her 80th birthday in April 2004. The idea being that through 3 themed CDs you'd get a beautiful snap-shot of just how much of a versatile singer she was. Included here are 60 recordings which span from her 1940 debut in a recording studio with Les Brown and his band ("While The Music Plays On") to her last solo song with Columbia Records in 1966 ("Caprice"). Overall you are in for a treat - as never before has Doris's official label Sony Music pushed out the boat with such time and care! This boxed set really does try to give you everything in one package such as: anecdotal stories about each song, a mini biography, full Columbia album discography, tributes from many of Doris's peers and friends, plus a special message which Doris wanted her fans world-wide to read! Alongside the 2004 edition of Eric Braun's bestselling biography "Doris Day" these two new releases work well together in reminding you what a true star Doris Day is... This set is a must for your music collection! |

Doris Day is so wonderful it brings tears to my eyes! |
Rating: 5.0 |
I'm probably very biased while writing this anyway cause I'm the biggest Doris Day fan there ever was, and being a singer/actress she is my idol, but until recently I hadn't heard all her songs. Then I bought the Cd. And it was like a revelation. She is so wonderful and lively, the best songs probably being Sugarbush, If I Can Help Somebody (one for the hankies girlies!), I enjoy being a Girl, A guy is a guy, There once was a man, Meditation and the brilliant I can do Without You from Calamity, (the best film/musical ever) and Doris Day really doesn't fail to shine!! Get it, its brilliant. You'll never stop listening to it!! <'Sugarbush I love you so..'> |

Doris Day never fails to shine |
Rating: 5.0 |
This box set is wonderful, full of great numbers and memorable songs from the movies. I'm the biggest Doris Day fan there ever was so this is pretty good for me! It's wonderful and the songs are upbeat and some tearful, the one that brings tears to my eyes is 'If I can help somebody' which really sums up Doris' appeal as she brought so much joy to people. These cds show her talent and love for music and the little note from her is nice too!!! |

SUPERB & UNIQUE DORIS DAY COLLECTION |
Rating: 5.0 |
This is one of the 3 best Doris Day Collections that exist on CD. The others are The Essential Love Songs (1 disc) and Golden Girl (2 discs). There is little duplication, so if you pick up all 3 collections, you won't regret it - they are all superb! And all necessary to really complete the puzzle - to do Doris' recording career justice. This 3-Disc Collection has something for everyone! Plenty of hits, and a LOT of rarities! (Alternate takes, a track recorded in 1940 - it's an awesome track, too!). The booklet is excellent, giving details about the recordings, and quotes from celebrity Doris fans, PLUS almost a whole page from Doris herself from 2004! Doris' films were wonderfully entertaining, but she was and is first and foremost an EXCELLENT VOCALIST, one of the all-time greats! She proves it here over and over and over. |
