Description

Orange of skin and furry of chest, Tom Jones has been wowing the crowds since he first walked away from the green, green grass of his Welsh home and into the hearts of housewives the world over. Jones rode the 1990s kitsch revival and, with the release of 1999's Reload, proved himself one of the music industry's most powerful and entertaining survivors. A collection of duets and collaborations with various contemporary stars of pop, rock and indie music (the Stereophonics, the Cardigans, Cerys from Catatonia and Robbie Williams, to name a few), Reload put Tom Jones back on the musical map for a whole new generation of music fans. Highlights here include his cover of Portishead's "All Mine" with the Divine Comedy, his exuberant take on "Mama Told Me Not To Come" with the Stereophonics and the playful "Are You Gonna Go My Way" with Robbie Williams. --Ted Kord

Amazing Rating: 5.0

well what can i say this is Tom Jones, and it can't get much better than this! all the tunes are great, i particulary love the tunes he does with Robbie williams and the Stereophonics. All i have to say is if you haven't got it in your cd collection, go out and buy it! NOW!

Funky and sassy ! Rating: 4.0

I was surpised to find myself buying this c.d. as i thought Tom Jones was someone only my Nan listened to, but two songs completely stand out on this c.d.

Baby It's Cold Outside with Cerys from Catatonia is a brilliant jazz/blues number with a surprise ending of Cerys remarking 'bloody freezin' in it' in her welsh accent. This was totally unexpected and had me giggling to myself on a bus full of people.

The other one is the duet with Robbie Williams, 'Are You Gonna Go My Way'. There voices compliment each other superbly with Tom Jones telling Robbie Williams that "I think you were born ready'.

Go listen for yourself and enjoy the other duets with The Cardigans, Heather Small, Mick Hucknall, Natalie Imbruglia to name but a few!

The coolest pensioner in pop/rock ! Rating: 4.0

I was sceptical when I heard about this album. It seemed like Jones The Voice was trying to improve his credibility by performing with the current generation of music ( + Van Morrison ).

I always knew that Tom had a superb voice but he really shines against nearly all of his partners on this album. There are a few songs that I always skip ( Simply Red, Chrissie Hynde, Zucchero ) but the rest of them are damn fine pop/rock tracks.

My personal favourite is Sexbomb with Mousse T followed by the Phonics, Barenaked Ladies and Cerys Matthews ...

If you like pop/rock, forget your 'cred' and grab a copy. You'll probably like it !

Very entertaining! Rating: 4.0

I bought this CD as a present for my girlfriend and I have to say, although I'm not a Tom Jones fan, I have found that with repeated listening it really grows on you. The good thing is the people he's partnered with are all credible acts (ie there's no duets here with atrocious, rancid "bands" like Steps or SClub7) The range of artists old TJ has partnered with is as diverse as the music and it all makes for a really enjoyable, fun CD. The cover of Lenny Kravitz's Are You Gonna Go My Way (a duet with Robbie Williams) is an absolute hoot - the pair of them really hamming it up. Sire, this CD has a couple of weaker moments but overall it's well worth buying and is also a much-needed welcome breath of fresh air considering the dire state of the so-called "pop" music scene. At least this is something refreshing ........
